Accuracy is the starting point; understanding the environment adds application value.

Haoru announced a UWB/AI integration direction spanning positioning anchors and following kits. The proposal adds a spatial-intelligence layer between radio measurements and application coordinates, extending the focus from obtaining ranges and coordinates to interpreting the operating environment.

A New Direction: From Accuracy to Spatial Understanding

Traditional systems can struggle with obstructions or repeated site-specific tuning. The announced direction combines CIR-based learning, NLOS bias handling and intent prediction, with capabilities intended for anchors and mobile platforms.

Haoru's stated goal is to make existing infrastructure and vehicles more capable through better interpretation of their environment, rather than relying only on additional anchors or stronger motors.

AI-Assisted Positioning: Interpreting the Environment

The announcement describes two capabilities for positioning infrastructure:

AI-assisted anchor roaming: selecting transitions and preparing connections in advance to improve continuity across overlapping coverage areas.

AI-assisted anchor diagnosis: identifying obstruction and coverage issues through a visual diagnostic interface.

The intended benefits include wider coverage continuity, reduced repeated adjustment and retention of information about the operating environment.

AI-Assisted Following: Toward More Capable Mobile Platforms

For following systems, the announcement describes moving beyond basic electronic-tether behavior:

Improved angle estimation through CIR/phase processing and compensation for the geometry of a person carrying a tag.

Improved turning and stopping behavior through load estimation, speed/curvature feed-forward and prediction of abrupt target stops.

Combined LiDAR, ultrasonic and AI-assisted obstacle processing, rather than independent sensor decisions.

Selectable following profiles, including smooth, off-road and care-related modes; the announcement describes seven profiles.

The intended result is smoother tracking and better adaptation to load and operating conditions.

The announced UWB/AI direction aims to add spatial interpretation to positioning and following. Environment simulation and learning functions are described as being introduced progressively.

Three additional UWB/AI functions were described as planned beyond the six capabilities discussed above. Availability must be confirmed for the current product and firmware.
