Haoru's range covers general development modules, long-range modules, embedded modules, ranging/angle devices, wearable tags and PoE anchors. This article compares their applications and distinguishes maximum ranging distance, ranging error and complete-system positioning accuracy.
Module selection starts with what the application needs to measure: distance between devices, personnel or vehicle coordinates, or the direction of a target relative to a robot. These requirements lead to different products and architectures.
The range includes general positioning modules, long-range devices, embedded modules, angle-measuring modules, wearables and networked PoE anchors. The following comparison groups them by use.
Distinguish Ranging, Positioning and Angle Measurement
Rangingmeasures distance between two UWB devices. TWR exchanges radio messages to calculate distance and can support either device separation measurements or multi-anchor positioning.
Positioningcalculates coordinates from measurements involving anchors and a tag. It requires the applicable anchors, tag and algorithm; a module's ranging error is not the accuracy of the complete positioning system.
Angle Measurementindicates the target's direction relative to an anchor. PDoA/AoA-related processing can combine direction with range for relative positioning and following applications.
Products and Suitable Applications
The distances below aremaximum ranging references under open-area LOS conditions.Practical range depends on device combinations, obstructions and metal reflections.
ULM1
DW1000-based general module, up to approximately 50m, configurable as an anchor or tag.
Suitable for initial UWB development, short-range ranging and DW1000-based product evaluation.
ULM3
DWM3000-based development module, up to approximately 40m, with display and serial interfaces.
Suitable for DW3000-based ranging, positioning and UWB feature evaluation. Its platform differs from ULM1; compatibility must be confirmed rather than assumed.
LD150 / LD150-I
Enclosed module with external antenna and internal battery, up to approximately 150m; the I version adds an IMU.
Suitable for mobile testing, mid-range ranging and development combining UWB with motion data.
LD600 / LD600-I
External antenna, internal battery and PA, up to approximately 600m; the I version adds an IMU.
Suitable for long-range ranging in open areas and mobile-device development. The 600m figure is a specific LOS maximum, not a guaranteed obstructed or indoor range.
ULM1-MK / ULM1-MK-IPX
Compact module with an onboard antenna in MK and an external antenna in MK-IPX; referenced ranges are approximately 400m and 600m respectively.
Suitable for integration into robots, AGVs and custom devices where module size, mounting and antenna placement matter.
ULM3-PA
DW3210-based module with PA and external antenna, up to approximately 300m.
Suitable for DW3000-family development and integrations requiring longer communication range.
ULM3-PDOA
Dual-antenna ranging/angle module, with approximately 40m ranging, ±60° angular coverage and stated ±5° angular accuracy.
Suitable for robot following and relative direction measurements. It provides relative range/direction; global-coordinate positioning requires the corresponding system design.
ULM1-SH / ULM3-SH Wristband Tags
Wearable UWB tags with motion wake-up; versions use different chip families.
Suitable for wearable personnel tracking, following and development. Verify anchor, chip-family, firmware and operating-mode compatibility.
ULM1-GP Badge Tag
A rechargeable UWB tag in a wearable badge form.
Suitable for personnel tracking in factories and warehouses and applications requiring a badge format.
IGA01-EP / IGA02-EP PoE Network Anchors
Ethernet and PoE anchors with an approximately 600m ranging reference. IGA01-EP is an indoor IP31 model; IGA02-EP is an outdoor IP67 model.
Suitable for fixed installations requiring network data and PoE. Assess IGA02-EP for outdoor or ingress-protection requirements; the two enclosure ratings are not interchangeable.
UTM1 TDoA Wireless Anchor Kit
Designed for a TDoA positioning architecture.
Suitable for university and development-team evaluation of TDoA algorithms, synchronization and system configuration.
ULM1-AL600 Audible and Visual Alarm Ranging Module
A module for ranging and audible/visual alerts.
Suitable for evaluating proximity or distance-based alert functions.
Select According to the Application
- Short-Range Development:Start with ULM1 or ULM3 according to the required chip platform and communication arrangement.
- Long-Range Ranging:Evaluate LD150, LD600 or ULM3-PA in open areas. For embedded integration, compare ULM1-MK/IPX formats and antennas.
- Target Direction:Evaluate ULM3-PDOA. Range-only modules do not replace angle measurement.
- Wearable Tracking:Choose a wristband or badge and verify compatibility with the anchor system.
- Fixed Ethernet/PoE Deployment:Assess IGA01-EP or IGA02-EP according to the installation environment.
- 2D or 3D Personnel/Asset Coordinates:Select a complete positioning architecture. HR-RTLS1 documentation gives at least three anchors for 2D, commonly four for deployment, and at least four for 3D. Accuracy depends on geometry, mounting height, coordinate calibration and obstructions.
