Project requirements

Fast assembly work requires frequent access to tools and parts. Manual carts interrupt work, increase effort under load and can strike vehicles or workers. Conversion must retain the existing shelves, avoid intrusive wiring and fit different station layouts.

Solution

The described project adds the following kit to the existing three-tier cart without changing its principal structure or storage space.

Operating Workflow:The worker wears a wristband or carries a remote tag. UWB supplies relative range/direction, and the drive follows at a configured distance, typically 2–3m in the described layout. The cart parks while the worker stops, follows between stations and reacts to obstacles according to the sensor configuration. Remote emergency stop remains available.

Two Operating Modes:Following mode tracks the worker; remote mode lets the operator move the cart for transfer or unusual tasks through a supported remote/control interface.

The conversion retains the three-tier shelving. Installation and tuning can be scheduled during existing production pauses to avoid an additional line shutdown.

The case description reports improvements in assembly, workload and safety:

Assembly EfficiencyReported tool-access/movement time decreased by approximately 35%, line-cycle stability improved by 20%, and waits for unavailable carts decreased by 90%.

Worker WorkloadThe case reports approximately 80% less pushing effort and 15% fewer assembly errors in the described operation.

Safety ManagementIt reports no cart/vehicle or injury events during the evaluation, obstacle response below 0.3 seconds and installation during normal production pauses without an additional line shutdown.
